NAUSET NEIGHBORS
Nauset Neighbors P.O. Box 225, Hours: Mon.- Fri. 9 am-5 pm President: Esther Elkin Website: NausetNeighbors.org The mission of Nauset Neighbors is to help seniors remain independent and in their homes as long as possible by providing “one call does it all” concierge service for transportation for medical, shopping and “quality-of-life” purposes, small handyman services, some technical support and friendly visits. Nauset Neighbors is a nonprofit all-volunteer organization with no paid staff. It is part of the nationwide Village-to-Village Network. NN currently serves residents of the Cape Cod towns of Brewster, Orleans, Eastham and Wellfleet, and an active citizen group in Harwich is working to bring the organization to their town. Virtual Office: Volunteer call managers answer all calls for services to 508-514-7067 in their homes, and log the requests in a sophisticated online software system. The request is then fulfilled by a system that can be scaled up almost indefinitely, and so the number of seniors that can be served is limited only by the number of volunteers willing to help them. Waiting List: Nauset Neighbors maintains a waiting list for residents, and admits new members as new volunteers join the organization. Website: Nauset Neighbors maintains an active website, posting weekly member services reports and a monthly newsletter for volunteers. Fee: Cooperation: NN works cooperatively with other community agencies such as the Councils on Aging and Elder Services. NN’s focus is services related to the home, and it will provide not only medical transportation but transportation to hairdresser appointments and trips to the Council on Aging, for example, that helps to increase the quality of life for seniors.
